The Brisbane Roar upset Garriock's farewell and kept their W-League finals hopes alive with a 5-0 thrashing of Canberra at Lions FC Stadium on Sunday.
Canberra have now dropped five matches without scoring a goal this season, conceding the most of any team with 29.
It leaves Garriock's outfit with a heavy heart, given they couldn't get the job done to send her out on a high.
The loss was most likely Leena Khamis' swansong, with the W-League veteran still weighing up her options for next season.
"I'm happy with the effort the girls put in, especially in that second half," Garriock said.
"It was a very tough, demanding and physical second half and we created some great opportunities.
"But look, it's been a hard couple of weeks. The girls just showed their character, they've been upset that they couldn't get the job down for Leena in her last game, as am I.
"We played together at Sydney FC in 2008 and she scored the first ever W-League goal. I'm happy to say that I've been with her in her final game, that's a really nice moment.
"I love this group of girls, it's been such an amazing ride with them."
Khamis wore the captain's armband, with Garriock attributing the potential final match of her decorated career.
She started at centre-forward, flanked by Elise Thorsnes and Hayley Taylor-Young, who was promoted in place of an injured Simone Charley.
Canberra enjoyed the lion's share of the early chances as Khamis and Taylor-Young missed two attempts in as many minutes, with their left-footed shots going wide.
They were chances Canberra would be left to rue as Brisbane drew first blood via two American recruits.
Forward Rylee Baisden hit Carson Pickett with a pinpoint cross, with the defender striking the ball into the top-right corner from outside the box.
It look less than four minutes for the hosts to double their score when midfielder Laura Hughes conceded a penalty with a hand ball in the area.

Baisden made the conversion with a perfectly placed shot to the bottom corner, landing beyond Sham Khamis' reach.
"The difference, especially in that first little bit, was Carson Pickett," Garriock said.
"She's such a brilliant player for them, she was outstanding."
Canberra fought their way back into the game and peppered the hosts for nearly 30 minutes of the second-half, but the winner never arrived.
But any hopes of a second half fightback began to wither when Pickett struck again in the 82nd minute with a header.
Canberra barely had time to console themselves before Brisbane's Shea Connors came off the bench and scored her first W-League goal with a flick past Sham Khamis.
Baisden then rubbed salt into the wound and capitalised on a through ball from Katrina Gorry to extend Brisbane's lead to five.
"Any kind of result like that is disappointing, but again, it's my responsibility as a coach to lock up the game and sit in if it's 2-0," Garriock said.
"But I'm not that kind of coach. It's about playing an aggressive style of football and that's what we played in the second half.
"The girls put their bodies on the line and then got caught out defensively on numerous occasions.
"I'll take responsibility for the blowout of the scoreline but their effort was phenomenal. We've given it out best shot and that's all I can ask from the girls.
"I could not ask for a better bunch of girls for my last W-League match and the score is no reflection of the game."
