And Pakistan's use of one keeping the West Indies' total down to one they could easily chase.
It meant the West Indies only posted 7-124, which Pakistan chased down with the loss of just two wickets and 10 balls to spare.
Pakistan got Hayley Matthews out for golden duck, but she would've been given not out for LBW if she had've referred it given Diana Baig's outswinger pitched outside leg stump.
West Indies allrounder Chinelle Henry was circumspect about how that decision might've changed the outcome of the game, feeling they let themselves down in the field defending their total.
"Maybe. Maybe not. But everything just went wrong since the first ball of the game, Hayley Matthews getting out," she said.
"But as a unit we stuck together, got to a pretty decent total. But moving forward we've got some work to do and I'm pretty sure for the remainder of the games we're going to turn up as a unit and play how the entire world knows how [we] play."
Baig's brilliant spell ripped out the heart of West Indies top order, getting Lee-Ann Kirby, and she had the Calypso Queens struggling to score quickly.
But Shemaine Campbelle (43 runs off 36 balls) opened her shoulders to hit two sixes and a four, but a great referral ended her innings after she was given not out reverse sweeping off Anam Amin.
Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof said they had a slight hesitation about referring the Campbelle call, but she was glad they did.
"We were just confused whether it hit on the gloves or not and I think we needed a wicket at that time," Maroof said.
"I think it was a very good review."
Then West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor (43 off 47) took over to help her team post a respectable total 7-124.
Opening bowler Shamilia Connell was a bit loose early and the Pakistan openers got their team off to a good start until Taylor got Javeria Khan out LBW for 35 (28 balls).
The West Indies got themselves back into the game when Muneeba Ali (25 off 26) was out, but Maroof (38 not out off 37) guided her team home.
