The 36-year-old Canberra man, who is not being named to protect the alleged victim's identity, was granted bail when he appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday.
He did not enter pleas to charges of common assault and the non-consensual distribution of intimate images.
In documents tendered to the court, police say the man went into the main bedroom at the couple's home on Saturday evening after they had discussed the future of their relationship.
The woman wanted to leave the home and tried to get into the bedroom to collect keys and her phone, but the man allegedly stopped her from entering.
Police allege he began verbally abusing the woman and told her the relationship was over, calling her a "slut" and a "whore".
The woman suspected the man had looked through her phone and found intimate images she had shared with a male friend who lives overseas.
The police allegations say the woman spotted her phone in the man's pocket when he later walked into the kitchen, and she tried to retrieve it.
The man is accused of grabbing the woman's wrists to stop her getting her phone, then pushing her out of the kitchen and up against a wall in the hallway, causing the woman to feel pain in her head and back.
He allegedly continued to abuse her while "telling her to get out".
Court documents say that after calling police using her work phone, the woman received a text message on that phone asking if she was aware intimate images had been posted to her Facebook account.
Because the man allegedly still had her personal phone, the woman was unable to log in and check, so she asked the person who sent the text to take screenshots of the Facebook post. These screenshots were later provided to police.
The Facebook post allegedly showed WhatsApp messages between the woman and her overseas friend, which included intimate images. The post was accompanied by a caption that said: "So I'm meant to have been in love with [the accused] and stopped cheating but I can't help it cause I'm such a whore".
Court documents say that during a police interview on Saturday night, the 36-year-old man admitted taking screenshots of the messages after finding them on the woman's phone, then posting them to her Facebook page.
However, he denied assaulting the woman, according to a summary of his police interview.
In the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday, Magistrate Bernadette Boss granted the man bail despite opposition from prosecutors, and ordered him to live with a friend in NSW.
The man must follow conditions including that he observe a curfew, not contact the woman, and not mention her in any social media posts.
He is due to return to court in April.
