The impact on grassroots sport will be felt across Australia, with more set to follow in the coming days.
Capital Football is considering whether it will postpone the soccer season, while Cricket ACT could cancel the premier grade grand final this weekend if health advice changes.
The Canberra Racing Club will also limit crowds to participants and essential staff at the next meeting in the capital.
Professional sporting competitions have dominated the news in the past week as administrators search for ways to keep elite athletes on television.
But weekend warriors will also feel the pain, told they won't be allowed to play in their competitions until further notice.
Rugby Australia has postponed club competitions until the start of May, Basketball ACT has suspended its summer league seasons and will assess future competitions at a later date. The NEAFL will be delayed and AFL Canberra will likely follow.

"This recommendation covers rugby matches, rugby training and face-to-face rugby education courses. Although this decision has not been made lightly, it has been made with the interests of the participants, families and the broader community as the priority," RA said.
"In arriving at this decision, Rugby Australia and the member unions have considered public health information and the advice of [medical staff]. The group acknowledges that this decision is a more conservative approach then has currently been recommended by the Australian, state and territory governments.
"However, it has been made to provide clarity to the rugby community in a challenging and disruptive time."
Basketball ACT cancelled all competitions over the weekend, but said it would assess new advice on Monday morning.
Basketball ACT chief executive David Simpson convened a Finance, Audit and Risk Management committee meeting to make a more long-term decision.
"The decision has been made to cancel all remaining games for the 2019-2020 summer competitions, and to suspend all other programs until further notice," Simpson said.
"This will include all senior and junior competitions, high performance programs, Waratah League, school and development programs as well as ancillary events including casual shoot-around.
"BACT notes this includes the postponement of the start of the premier competitions until potentially after 30 April 2020, however a decision on a proposed start date will be made in the coming days."
Wests-UC and Weston Creek will play in the Cricket ACT first grade grand final this weekend, but officials are weighing up whether to cancel it. They will consider evolving advice from government authorities before making a final call.
