It's believed boxing promoter Dean Lonergan is investigating the possibility of two of Australia's top boxers locking horns behind closed doors - in a bid to help raise morale as the coronavirus pandemic sweeps the world and closes down everything in its wake.

Canberra was an early contender to host the super welterweight bout, but it was scheduled to be held in Townsville on April 22.

The COVID-19 virus has since forced it to be postponed, but Lonergan's investigating every contingency.

One of those is shifting to a smaller venue and fighting without a crowd.

A rematch in front of a crowd would reportedly be a prerequisite for this to happen.

"Potentially. We'll look at it anyway. At this stage there's not a lot to look at because it's really hard to put something on based on the current restrictions," Tszyu's agent Matt Rose said.

"But in the not-too-distant future when everything starts to get a little bit safer I think that may be an option if we can't do the stadium show.

"There's definitely an appeal there because we want to make sure Tim fights Jeff. We'd be keen to get it done."
