ACT police said a 28-year-old Monash man was seen driving a Toyota Starlet in Calwell about 9.50pm on Saturday.
Police tried to stop the man after officers recognised him as someone with outstanding warrants.
Officers tried to stop the car a second time before setting up a cordon in the area.
An ACT police spokesman said about 10pm, the car was driven onto the wrong side of the road towards police at the intersection of Ashley Drive and Johnson Drive in Calwell.
After the car hit the gutter, it flipped onto its roof.
The man then allegedly got out of the car and tried to run away from police but was arrested in a nearby backyard.
He was taken to Canberra Hospital where he was treated for multiple injuries.
The spokesman said it's expected multiple charges will be laid against the man, including failing to stop, using an unregistered vehicle, common assault, trespass and warrant offences.
