The Raiders faced the very real prospect of their already mammoth travel schedule becoming even longer following their 22-6 victory over the Melbourne Storm in Melbourne on Saturday night.

Their flight home took off with the players and coaching staff unsure whether they'd be able to land at Canberra Airport due to fog in the capital.

They faced the prospect of either diverting to Wagga Wagga or Sydney, and then having to catch a bus home turning a 1.30am bedtime into something much closer to dawn.

Thankfully, the fog cleared and they were able to land in Canberra about 12.20am.

An unexpected three-hour bus ride would've added to what was already the toughest travel schedule in the NRL.

The fact the Raiders have to play their home games at Campbelltown Stadium until at least round 10 means they'll spend more time on the road than any other team in the competition.

Ironically, a bid from Campbelltown used fog as a reason to stop the Raiders from entering the NSWRL in the '82 season.

It was between them and the Green Machine to become the expansion team back then.

The Campbelltown bid argued Canberra Airport had been shut 39 times between March and September in 1980.

Now the Raiders find themselves travelling to Campbelltown, where they have an 8-11 win-loss record, almost every week until at least round nine.

The Raiders will fly to Sydney for their "home" games and then bus home, but bus it up and back for their away games in the Harbour City.

It means they'll spend 30 hours on the road from rounds 3-9 - seven hours more than Newcastle, who have the next biggest travel load.

In contrast, the Penrith Panthers play all seven games in Sydney, while South Sydney and Wests Tigers only leave there once.

The North Queensland Cowboys will travel further than anyone else due to their Townsville home, but the fact the Raiders travel every week means they'll spend longer in transit.

Returning Raider Jordan Rapana was stoked he could get home to bed at the end of what was already a 12-hour day.

"It was clear as [when we landed]. I think a majority of us just wanted to get back home to Canberra so it was fingers crossed the fog lifted - which it did - and we all got back about midnight last night so it wasn't too bad," he said.

"I was very glad. I was tired, just wanted to get in my bed, get home to my wife, see my dog and I'm glad we got out of there."
