Military book prize
The Australian War Memorial has established the $10,000 Les Carlyon Literary Prize, to be awarded biennially for an author's first book or major publication relating to Australian military history, Australian social military history, or war history. Entries are open to works of fiction and nonfiction published in 2018-20, and will close on June 30, 2020. Shortlisted finalists will be announced in October, with the winner to follow in November. ACU Prize for Poetry
Entries are now open for the Australian Catholic University Prize for Poetry. The 2020 prize will be awarded for outstanding unpublished poetry with the theme Generosity, reflecting on Katerina Stoykova Klemer's supposition, "If truth doesn't set you free, generosity of spirit will". Entries close on July 6 and winners will be announced on September 22. Professor Chris Wallace-Crabbe will be the judge. First prize is $10,000; second prize is $5000; third prize is $3000. Australian residents are eligible to enter. The shortlisted, commended and winning poems will be announced on Tuesday, September 22. Inquiries can be made to prizeforpoetry@acu.edu.au. The Huddle
Penguin Random House Australia has launched an online book club called The Huddle to connect readers with authors on Facebook. On Fridays from 3pm to 4pm a Facebook post will go up featuring the book of the week. Readers will be encouraged to comment on the post and discuss the book.
