Police arrested Stephen James Porter, 50, on Saturday after executing search warrants and seizing evidence in the west Belconnen suburb.
Mr Porter appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday and did not apply for bail or enter pleas to two charges.
He is accused of maintaining a sexual relationship with a child aged between 10 and 16, and using the internet to provide pornography to a child.
Charges read to Mr Porter in court allege that he committed both offences in a period spanning from January 2016 until April 2019.
No further details of the alleged crimes were given in court, but prosecutor Ryan Roberts indicated that police were likely to lay further charges.
Mr Porter was remanded in custody to appear in court again next month.
