The announcement comes in the lead up to the Eden-Monaro byelection, where Mr Albanese was due to join Labor candidate Kristy McBain on Wednesday to meet with locals affected by the summer bushfires.

Mr Albanese said Labor was committed to reversing the cuts to save regional jobs, protect the ABC's emergency broadcasting capacity and support local news and content.

The ABC recently announced it would be cutting 250 jobs nationally and stopping the 7.45am news bulletin to accommodate the cuts.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison claimed there would be no cuts to the ABC budget as the overall amount the corporation receives from the government would increase slightly in the next three years.

However, a funding indexation freeze means the ABC will lose out on almost $84 million.

Mr Albanese said the ABC would receive that $83.7 million under a Labor government.

He said the ABC saved lives during the summer bushfires and had worked tirelessly to support regional communities through drought, coronavirus and the fires.

A recent survey released by GetUp found more than 70 per cent of voters polled in Eden-Monaro believed the ABC was a critical service during emergencies.

Mr Albanese said Saturday's byelection offered voters an opportunity to send the government a message that it did not support cuts to the ABC.
