Seven people have been busted at more than double the legal limit in the past week in what police say is an alarming spike in drink driving in Canberra.

In one case, a 36-year-old Hawker man was more than four times the legal limit when he blew 0.230 after he was involved in a two-car crash in Weetangera on Thursday, police say.
In another case, a 34-year-old Latham man racked up his fifth drink driving offense after recording a blood alcohol level of 0.180 on Saturday night.
Detective Sergeant Ivan Naspe said such reckless driver behaviour had to stop.
"This is not a new message, everybody knows driving while intoxicated is dangerous and can have horrific consequences for the driver, passengers and anyone else unfortunate enough to encounter a drunk driver on the road," Detective Sergeant Naspe said.
"For those who make the incredibly dumb decision to drink and drive, be prepared for the consequences, you will be caught. Roadside alcohol or drug testing can happen anywhere, any time on any road by police in marked and unmarked police vehicles."
Other drivers caught over the past week included:
- A 45-year-old man at 0.216 in Latham on Thursday night.
- A 33-year-old Lyons man at 0.122 in Cook on Thursday evening.
- A 30-year-old man at 0.116 in Charnwood on Sunday morning.
- A 29-year-old Braddon man at 0.108 wouldn't stop for police in Aranda on Saturday night, but was caught in O'Connor.
- A 39-year-old woman at 0.104 in Aranda on Friday night.
Detective Sergeant Naspe said the seven people detected would appear in court at a later date via summons.
