Music residencies
Now in its fifth year, Prelude has created a national network dedicated to supporting new works from Australian composers. Prelude offers long-term residencies allowing composers to focus on their craft while residing in one of three heritage-listed Australian homes: Peggy Glanville-Hicks House in Paddington, Sydney; Gallop House in Dalkeith, Perth; or Collingrove House in Angaston, on the eastern side of the Barossa Vallery in South Australia. The program is open to composers from any genre and at any stage of their careers. Applications are open now and will close on August 23, 2020. bundanon.com.au/residencies/prelude-composer-residence-program.
Where You Are
Upcoming events in this festival include Live in Ya Lounge performances via streaming of folk blues band Black Cypress and vocal group The Faumuis (on Saturday, July 25 at 7.30pm) and East Row Rabble (funk, blues, reggae ad soul) and self-described "experienced campaigners" Formally Known As, together for a one-off gig (on Friday, July 31 at 7.30pm). For theatre buffs, there's Rockspeare Richard III. Presented by Lakespeare & Co., it's an adaptation of William Shakespeare's play edited and directed by Lexi Sekuless. The production has an original rock score and stars Dene Kermond in the title role as a hunchback with a withered arm who will stop at nothing - lying, conniving, murder - to take the throne after his brother the king dies. More information and registrations for all of these: risecanberra.com/where-you-are-festival. Performances of Rockspeare Richard III will be live streamed on August 7 and 8 at 7.30pm: for more information and bookings see lakespeare.com/rockspeare.
