Cummins will have the reins for the Raiders' clash against the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville and an NRL rule change will ensure the grand final heartbreak haunts players and fans.

Cummins infamously yelled and signalled "six again" in a tense grand final when the Raiders had possession, only to change his mind and award possession to the Sydney Roosters.

Scores were locked at 8-all at the time, but were in their attacking zone and looked destined to score when Jack Wighton scooped up the ball in the attacking zone after Cummins awarded an extra set.

He changed his mind, the Roosters scored a few tackles later and the rest is history. The Raiders were dudded, the Roosters won their second straight premiership and fans were scratching their heads.

The call still doesn't sit well with the Canberra faithful and the NRL has avoided having Cummins in charge of a Raiders game until now - a round 12 fixture well away from the critical eyes in the capital or Sydney.

Cummins will yell and signal "six again" several times during the match against the Cowboys thanks to a rule tweak to speed-up the game this season.

But the Raiders say they have moved on from the Cummins decision, which contravened rule 16.9. The rule says referees can only change their decisions due to foul play.

Most of the animosity will be forgotten given the changes to the injury-hit Raiders, who have proven doubters wrong with gritty wins in a grand final re-match against the Roosters two weeks ago and against South Sydney last weekend.

Curtis Scott and John Bateman return to the starting side this week in their respective comebacks from injuries, and Scott says he won't be leaving the capital despite reports Canterbury is keen to lure him to Sydney.

"Just going to nip this in the bud this is all media talking rubbish again," Scott said on social media. "I haven't started the year the best but I am working as hard as I can every day to get back to where I want to be."
