It will be a permanent store filled with books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, comics and more. The bookshelves and tables, filled with the usual book fair delights, which will be restocked daily.
Just like the book fairs, all funds raised will go to Lifeline's local Crisis Support Service 13 11 14.
Lifeline Canberra chief executive Carrie Leeson was proud for the store to open and contribute to the community.
Ms Leeson said the store would not be replacing the popular book fairs.
But with COVID-19 and social distancing making a book fair impossible at the moment, the book store was a way to keep the funds flowing.
She said the book fairs would return, at the earliest, next year - in February and September at EPIC and in July southside.
"It costs $26 to answer a life-saving call in our telephone crisis support centre. At Book Lovers Lane, this equates to around a handful of books, so every purchase is valuable," she said.
"As a small organisaton, we rely heavily on the support of our warehouse volunteers, who have so generously given their time, support and expertise in getting Book Lovers Lane ready. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes and we are very thankful for each and every one of them.
"We look forward to sharing this new venture with the Canberra community."
