Whatever it is, it's working. And Raiders co-captain Jarrod Croker is in career-best form from the kicking tee.

Not only did he slot the match-winning conversion from the sideline in Canberra's 14-12 victory over North Queensland on the weekend, but he's also kicking at 85 per cent so far this season.

It's only narrowly behind his statistics for 2013, when he kicked at 85.25 per cent.

Last year, he struggled from the tee at only 73.33 - his lowest numbers in his 269-game career.

It has Croker sitting near the top of the goalkicking table this season in the NRL.

If you take out the players who have only had a few shots at goal, the Raiders centre sits third in the NRL for conversion rates - behind only Cameron Smith and Adam Reynolds.

Croker said he hasn't changed much in how he goes about things, except maybe to have shorter, sharper training sessions - rather than one big long one.

"Probably a little thing I've done is I've tried to do a little bit more work on it," he said.

"I felt as though last year - even though we had a good year - I probably wasn't at my best goalkicking wise last year.

"I don't know whether my body was up to it last year. I know I played every game, but this year I've tried to have smaller, shorter sessions over a longer period - over two or three sessions - as opposed to trying to have one big session.

"If I don't feel that well I only have to have 10-12 kicks as opposed to fitting in a full session.

"Whether that's helping or not I don't know. Whether it's the new facility or hasn't been as cold in Canberra and I've been able to kick more, I don't know what it is.

"It's nice to knock a couple over and it makes you feel pretty nice when it does come down to that in the end.

"I know it was a long way out from full-time so it wasn't exactly a clutch moment or anything."

Another change has been the coronavirus-induced bubble.

It means Croker's kicking coach Daryl Halligan hasn't been able to help him in person as he's not in the bubble.

Rather than give Halligan the boot, the Raiders have been utilising footage from a drone to help fine tune the 29-year-old's superboot.

"I haven't sacked 'Chook'," Croker joked.

"He's doing a really good job Chooky. He won't mind me saying this, he doesn't really do a lot to be honest. He just picks up on a few things here and there.

"I still learn a lot off him every time I talk to him. He's always got something for me. I've been working with him since I've been kicking.

"At training we've had the drone take a bit of footage of us goalkicking at the end of training and send the emails through to Chook to have a look.

"He'll get back to us - text me or ring me - to let me know anything I can work on. It's only a little thing here and there. It's nothing really major too often.

"Most of the time it's getting away from [Jordan Rapana] distracting everyone while we're trying to kick. It's been pretty easy to communicate."
