Belconnen United had seven seasoned National Premier League players absent but managed to hold on for a nil-all draw at Melrose Synthetic on Sunday.

The result elevated the Blue Devils into third place with three rounds remaining, but four teams still have a game in hand.

The ACT government has closed all grass fields until at least Tuesday due to the rainfall, postponing the grand-final rematch between the ladder-leading Gungahlin United and Tigers FC at the AIS. Canberra Croatia's clash with Canberra Olympic at Deakin Stadium was also cancelled.

Macor was impressed by his young team's effort to maintain a clean sheet but said there was still plenty to learn from the performance.

"Regardless of the opposition, every player has to step up. The club is in good stead that we can rely on these young players to come in and do that," Macor said.

"We didn't concede any goals, so we walk away being positive. I thought it was a good result at the end, we just have to learn to take our chances when they come our way."

The Blue Devils had 57 per cent of possession in the see-sawing first-half and two solid chances in succession to pinch the lead.

Striker Kofi Danning had a chance to pull the trigger in the 19th minute but instead tried to cross it to teenager Luca Florez for a tap-in. The cross got cut out.

Adrian Macor could have put the visitors ahead a minute later when he pounced on a sweeping Belconnen corner, but his header hit the crossbar.

The rebound looked certain to go in, with Izach Clements following it up, but Tuggeranong goalkeeper Jakeb Wiseman pulled off a stunning one-handed save to keep the game scoreless.

"We put ourselves in those positions to create chances. It was a great save by the Tuggeranong goalkeeper and he parried it onto the bar," Macor said.

"But we've got to take chances where we know there's certain goals. It's a learning year for us in bleeding the young boys in, I think they're taking it all on board."

Tuggeranong had better chances and created more in the second half, particularly following the late injection of Daniel Fulton in the middle.

The former Futsalroo had two near attempts in the dying minutes,

Andrew Slavich flew down the right edge and fired the ball across the face of goal but the attempt was deflected by goalkeeper Jordan Thurtell.

Fulton sprinted towards the loose ball to follow it through, but the Belconnen shot-stopper once again got his hands to it first.

He had another great chance to win it for Tuggeranong in stoppage time, forcing a save out of Thurtell with a futsal-spinning shot from the left-hand side.

"Fulton is an Australian indoor representative so he's very good with the ball at his feet, especially in the box. You've got to give those players the utmost respect and they can turn a young player inside out," Macor said.

"We were lucky enough Jordan was responsive, got a good save and kept the clean sheet."
