Tigers coach Ryan Grogan could only watch on in frustration as his side failed to secure their finals spot, and was left to anxiously watch the Canberra Olympic-Woden match late on Saturday to see whether his side would hang onto fourth before the competition split.
Olympic would steal fourth place with a win.
"Both teams knew what was at stake in today's game, and we knew regardless of the other results that are happening over the weekend, we knew we had to win, just to secure it," Grogan said.
"The way it is now we're just sitting around, gotta watch two more games to see what happens."
Tigers came into the round in fourth spot, knowing a win would secure their spot in the top four.
Tuggeranong also has a chance to leapfrog Grogan's side, if they can beat ladder leaders Canberra Deakin on Sunday afternoon.
Belconnen coach Daniel Macor said that despite the shaky season due to COVID-19, the club deserved to be where they were even with their hefty injury toll.
"It's a funny season with COVID and so forth, but I thought genuinely from round one to round seven we've deserved to be there on performance alone," Macor said.
"We've been unlucky in a couple of games but the performance in general has been outstanding and it's just been a hard season with the stop start season. I can't emphasise that enough because it really is tough on injuries.
"But we're enjoying it and such a young squad with a few experienced players and just to see the younger players playing the way that they are guided by these senior players, it's very pleasing."
While Belconnen have faced several setbacks, Macor said he was confident in the team's ability and chemistry on the field.

"The thing with young players is they have no fear. And I think that's the greatest thing, they bring enthusiasm and energy and for us we don't stop that," Macor said.
"The senior players, they're solid they've been around for a while, but I just think the younger players bring a level of enthusiasm that lifts even the older players along. So I think it's a great blend."
Despite coming away with the win, Macor said his side were still far from the finished product after missing several chances throughout the afternoon
"Goals win games, but the way we played and the level we were playing that intensity, I thought that was never going to stop," Macor said.
"But in bigger games they're gonna cost you, but at the same time we're creating opportunities.
"If we're not creating opportunities, you can't miss goals let alone score them. On that side you need a tidy up but at the other side we're creating chances so that's pleasing."
