It came as welcome news on Tuesday for Canberrans eager to escape on a holiday or visit family and friends.
What do I need to do before I leave?
ACT residents travelling to SA are required to complete a Cross Border Travel Registration pre-approval form, as is required by anyone entering the state.
As part of that form, you would be required to declare you hadn't left the ACT in 14-days before arriving in SA.
When will more flights be available?
Qantas currently operates three direct flights between Adelaide and Canberra on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
A spokesman for the airline told The Canberra Times it would look to increase services to match demand.
There are also 11 flights departing Canberra to Sydney weekly. Canberrans can transit through Sydney to Adelaide but they cannot leave the airport and must enter SA via air.
Virgin Australia's Canberra to Adelaide services are still on hold and the airline said they would resume based on demand.
"We are reviewing our network schedule, and will look to resume services between Canberra and Adelaide in due course," a Virgin Australia spokesperson said.
Canberra Airport chief executive Stephen Byron said pre-pandemic there were 17 Canberra to Adelaide services departing each week.
"I think we'll just see this gradually increase over the coming weeks and certainly for school holidays," he said.
A trip to the Adelaide Hills isn't likely to get affordable anytime soon.
Currently, a return trip would set you back a minimum of $800 and could cost more than $1200.
Do I have to fly?
Flying is the only option, unless you want to stay in quarantine.
SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said anyone who drove from the ACT through NSW would have left the safe community transmission zone.
"It's simply not possible for us to be confident a person driving from the ACT to South Australia has not had contact with the NSW community," he said.
Canberrans can fly via Sydney provided they do not leave the airport.
What does this mean if I work or live in NSW?
The SA border has reopened to ACT residents only, and isn't expected to open to NSW until there has been two-weeks without community transmission.
A declaration must be made before entering SA a person hadn't left a "low community transmission zone" for 14-days prior, which means anyone who works or lives across the border in nearby jurisdictions like Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra or Yass, will have to wait for quarantine-free travel.
Commissioner Stevens said travellers were expected to be honest and anyone caught breaching the declaration could be fined.
"We are requiring people to make a declaration on their pre-approval and we are expecting people to be honest in that declaration," he said.
"If we have information or evidence that suggests people have not been truthful, then we'll deal with that as we identify those people."
Anyone found lying on the form would face a fine up to $1060 and police could pursue criminal prosecution.
Where can I go next?
Most state borders remained closed but ACT residents can travel to SA, the Northern Territory and NSW without quarantining.
Chief Minister Andrew Barr has touted a travel bubble with Tasmania would be likely in the near future.
He hoped travel with Queensland would also resume within months but expected Western Australia would keep its border shut for some time.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk told reporters on Wednesday the border decision would be reviewed at the end of the month.
She would discuss concerns around identification of ACT residents with Mr Barr during Friday's national cabinet meeting.
"We had concerns about lack of ID and we will look at that very closely to see what provisions can be put in place for the ACT around the end of the month," Ms Palaszczuk said.
