But it's unlikely to be a long-term deal, with the company considering stepping up from their current position as second major sponsor in the Raiders' time of need for a year or two - while the hunt continues for a long-term partner to take over after that.

With Huawei set to step aside as Canberra's major sponsor at the end of the season, ending nine years in the post, The Canberra Times revealed Canberra Milk was open to the possibility of a return.

Since then talks have begun, with discussions held at Raiders HQ on Thursday morning.

They're a foundation sponsor of the NRL club and appear on the front of one of only three Raiders premiership jerseys following their '94 triumph.

Two wins from their final two games, beginning with the New Zealand Warriors at Canberra Stadium on Sunday, will give the fifth-placed Raiders a chance to sneak into the top four - with the Parramatta Eels the most likely to drop out.

Canberra Milk were hopeful of having a deal done by then to allow Stuart's men to focus on finals football and trying to add a fourth premiership to the trophy cabinet.

Social media erupted when Huawei announced they were stepping aside as major sponsor - they'll remain on the back of the Raiders' jersey in 2021 - with masses of calls for Canberra Milk to return.

Canberra Milk stoked the fire with a Facebook post saying they were happy to sit down with the Raiders to "chat over an ice cold glass" of milk.

It seems they were true to their word, with The Canberra Times capturing a picture of one of the company trucks outside the Braddon centre of excellence on Thursday morning.

Capitol Chilled Foods Australia managing director Steve Ness said they had been touched by the public outcry.

"We can confirm we are currently having conversations with the Raiders about changing our sponsorship agreement," Ness told The Canberra Times.

"We were certainly overwhelmed by the strong community support and desire to see the Canberra Milk brand more prominent and expect to reach an outcome in the coming weeks."

Raiders chief executive Don Furner said they were talking to several interested parties as they went through the process.

"We've spoken to a few [and have] got a couple of presentations to do over the next two weeks," he said.

"So it's good. It got a lot of interest that Huawei announcement actually."
