Wighton's one of three No.6s in Blues coach Brad Fittler's State of Origin squad along with Luke Keary and Cody Walker.
Walker and Wighton were two of five additions Fittler announced on Sunday, along with Raiders winger Nick Cotric, and South Sydney's Damien Cook and Cameron Murray.
While the Blues squad will start assembling on the Central Coast on Monday, Blues adviser Greg Alexander said the Raiders duo wouldn't come into camp until later in the week - allowing them to spend time with their teammates to celebrate and commiserate a long, hard season.
The rest of the 27-man squad will be finalised following the NRL grand final between the Penrith Panthers and the Melbourne Storm at ANZ Stadium on Sunday, with 20 players named so far.
Wighton made his Origin debut last year playing in the centres, but Alexander said he was in the mix to wear the No.6 jersey when this year's series kicks off at Adelaide Oval on November 4.
"Absolutely. Jack's a real chance to play there. It's a three-game series and we won't decide anything until we all get together," Alexander said.
"The season's not done. We don't know out of the two teams left [who will come in].
"These boys have to get through a grand final and then be fit.
"Jack's form at six means if he was to wear the six for NSW I'd be feeling pretty comfortable about it - but he was good at left centre too last year.
"In the end you just want to get your best players on the field - even if it's not in positions they play in week-in, week-out."

Wighton was in sensational form over the final months of the NRL season, scoring nine of his 13 tries for the season in the Green Machine's final eight games.
Cotric was the only Raider to cross the stripe in the preliminary final loss to the Storm, his two tries taking his season total to 14 and making him Canberra's leading try scorer.
It was his final game for his home-town club before his switch to the Canterbury Bulldogs in the off-season.
He made his Blues debut in Origin I last year, but missed the rest of the series after injuring his ankle.
Storm flyer Josh Addo-Carr will likely come into the squad following the grand final, with Cotric potentially fighting with Sydney Roosters winger Daniel Tupou for a spot on the other edge.
"Daniel Tupou's in the squad and Nick's there and we'll just see what we come up with in terms of another winger or centre," Alexander said.

Alexander felt it was important to allow the Raiders pair time to draw a curtain on their NRL seasons before bringing them into the Origin bubble.
All NRL players have been forced to endure much stricter biosecurity measures than most Australians.
They've been unable to do simple things like eat at restaurants or go to cafes - or even visit family and friends.
But they'll be given the chance to do all that for a few days before entering the Blues' bubble at the Magenta Shores golf resort.
"They've got a few days to just enjoy their teammates and family before they go up to the Central Coast," Alexander said.
"I think it's important because it's been a different year. They've been in their own bubbles for the whole season.
"Especially the Canberra boys who have had a lot of travel.
"We wanted them to be able to spend some time with their team where everyone's relaxed and not be thrown into it too quick."
