And while he's not expecting to be picked for the Bledisloe Cup against New Zealand at Sydney Olympic Stadium on Saturday, he'll be busting a gut to ensure he's ready if coach Dave Rennie calls upon him.
He could also get a run for Australia A against Argentina on Friday, with McInerney saying the game looked like going ahead.
After this weekend, the Wallabies have three more Tri-Nations Tests - one against the All Blacks at Lang Park on November 7 and then two against Argentina at Newcastle and Parramatta.
McInerney's established himself in the ACT Brumbies' 23 on the way to their Super Rugby AU title.
The Canberra product drove up to the Hunter Valley on Sunday after getting the call-up last week.
He's had the Royals' premiership win to keep him fit, along with training with Isi Naisarani under the eye of former Brumbies head trainer Ben Serpell.
While he'd never look a Wallabies jersey in the mouth, McInerney sees this camp as a learning opportunity and a stepping stone - learning off Brumbies hooker Folau Faingaa, Brandon Paenga-Amosa and Jordan Uelese.
"I was just very excited mate, just to be part of it ... it's just a big learning curve for me," McInerney said.
"It's the first time I've been in such a high-quality environment. If I am here longer than a week, be in a position to definitely push for the 23. [But] this week and next week just get up to scratch."

McInerney made his Brumbies debut in 2018 and now his "whirlwind" ride is a couple of steps away from a gold jersey.
He's spoken to Wallabies and Brumbies prop James Slipper about the importance of making every moment count.
"It's important to be competitive in this environment, it's good for the whole team," McInerney said.
"While I am here to learn I'll definitely be trying my best and trying not to leave any stones unturned. Making the most of it is very important."
