The 40-year-old Kambah man was arrested on Wednesday after police executed a search warrant at his Seymour Place residence.
Police alleged the man was caught on CCTV footage taking the brass fittings from seats in Henry Rolland Park, before he left the scene in his brother's car.
It is not the first time the seat's brass fittings have been taken.
After a theft in 2018 the ACT government installed CCTV cameras in the park.
ACT Policing Proactive Intervention and Disruption Team Detective Sergeant Jason Dziubinski said police had seen the car they believed he used in his getaway.
"Brass is a highly sought after item and people buying second-hand equipment of this value should always question where it has come from," he said.
"It is fortunate CCTV is installed at Henry Rolland Park to enhance public safety and help ACT Policing investigate crime.
"It shows how beneficial CCTV can be to a successful investigation."
The man was taken to the ACT Regional Watch House and charged with theft.
He has been released on bail to face the ACT Magistrates Court on January 22.
