Sunday in the Park was an iconic Canberra event, bringing families and friends together to be entertained by activities, rides and music.
While the "Life. Be in it" campaign was all about being active, even the cartoon character who starred in the campaign, Norm, would have "been in it" that day, with plenty on offer for those who shared his armchair-athlete disposition.
Canberra event co-ordinator Rob Parsonson said the crowd was estimated at 20,000 and the day was successful in its aim to get people to take part.
The crowd showed a lot of enthusiasm for the new games, particularly the big Earth ball, where people of all ages got lost in the fun, making up rules as they went along.
Mrs Jill Shaw, who was visiting family in Canberra said: "I have never seen so many people having so much fun, out of something so simple."
