Shrek the Musical will open at the Canberra Theatre on February 14 after a season in Brisbane. Based on the DreamWorks Animation film and the book by William Steig, the 2008 Broadway show has music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire.
It is the story of the unlikely hero Shrek and his loyal steed, Donkey, as they set off on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona. She is imprisoned in a tower guarded by a dragon. Other characters include the wicked Lord Farquaad and a gang of fairy tale misfits.
The Canberra Theatre Centre's director, Alex Budd, said, "We're thrilled to forge this new relationship with the Gordon Frost Organisation and to bring such an exciting production to Canberra. Canberrans can't wait for a great night out, and we're delighted that come February, everyone's favourite ogre will be giving us just that, eight times a week."
- Shrek the Musical opens on February 14, 2020 at the Canberra Theatre for at least two weeks. Bookings: canberratheatrecentre.com.au or (02) 6275 2700.
