It makes it a bit easier for the locals. But he said it was still a strong meet at his home track.
"It's good not to have them down here, that's for sure, always makes it a little bit easier," Pepper said.
"But they travel every other place we go to. Definitely happy not to see them in that's for sure.
"It's just coronavirus isn't it. Who knows what's going to happen next week.
"It's still quite a strong meeting, without a doubt. We've got a few in so hopefully we can get a winner."

Pepper has five runners in Canberra on Tuesday and he thought Boho Chick and his two in the Federal Handicap (1400 metres) were his best chances.
Boho Chick's running in the class 1 handicap (1300m).
The three-year-old filly's coming off a last-start fourth at Canberra, having broken her maiden status in Wagga Wagga the start before that.
Pepper also has Away She Goes and Snowbrook in the Federal.
"I think Boho Chick and the two in the Federal [are my best]," he said.
"Boho was a bit unlucky last start. She bunny hopped at the start of the race and got further back than what we wanted her.
"She got held up at the start of the straight and still ran a terrific race - she wasn't beaten far.
"Any sort of luck, she's probably my best of the day. Both horses in the Federal, they're both in super order.
"Away She Goes was really good the other day. She got way, way back and charged through the line so she's really ready for the 1400m and Blaike McDougall's obviously a great booking for her.
"Snowbrook, she's had a bit of a break between her first-up run and this run. She had a bit of an issue with her foot and freshened up really well.
"She was in fine form last preparation and she ran a bottler first-up so everything's spot on with her and we're looking forward to seeing her."
