A NSW man has launched an expletive-laden tirade at a magistrate after he was refused bail for what prosecutors described as "acts of random and unprovoked violence" in Canberra.
The 45-year-old man appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday via phone from the city watch house.
When Magistrate Glenn Theakston refused him bail, the man told him: "You are a f---ing c----sucking, a---raping f---ing dog".
Police documents tendered to the court alleged the man ran at his victim outside the Playing Fields Cafe on Monday, before he hit him on the back of the hand and later threw his phone to the ground.
The documents said the man told his victim "I'm going to kill you", "I'm going to shoot you", and, "I know your address now".
They said the man chased the victim and another woman around Glebe Park, before the woman called the police.
In court on Tuesday, Prosecutor Angus Brown described the man's behaviour as "bizarre and inexplicable", but he said the man had schizophrenia and wasn't engaging with mental health services.
The defendant told the court "nothing is true in the statement whatsoever".
He said he had been on his way back to Sydney when the alleged victim started filming him - the police documents said the victim had been taking photos of the cafe, which had been recently renovated.
The defendant said that, when he asked the alleged victim to stop, the response was, "What are you going to do about it?".
He said he flipped the man's phone out of his hand, but the man followed him. The 45-year-old told the court: "I said, 'Look f---wit, if you don't stop following me and filming me, I'm going to f---ing shoot you'.
"He didn't have the right to film me."
The defendant said he wanted to return to Sydney, but the magistrate refused him bail after prosecutors argued the man was a danger to the public.
The magistrate noted the 45-year-old's mental health issues before the defendant abused him.
The defendant is next due in court on February 2. On Tuesday, he did not enter pleas to three fresh charges: robbery, making a reckless threat to kill, and damaging property.
