The Thunder and Sixers square off in a mouth-watering top-of-the-table clash at Manuka Oval on Wednesday night, marking the first time in history the Sydney derby has been staged in the capital.
Bragging rights are on the line as always, but so is the opportunity for each team to take a gigantic stride towards a top-two finish in this year's Big Bash.
And there's another level of spice to this one too - Englishman Sam Billings will square off against his old employers, wearing green for the first time in a Sydney derby having spent two seasons at the Sixers between 2016-18.
Billings blasted 83 in Saturday's loss to the Perth Scorchers, and Sixers captain Daniel Hughes said containing his old teammate would be crucial.
"He's been a pretty big player for them the last couple of games. He got 80-odd against Perth over in Perth and he seems to be playing very well," Hughes said.
"He'll be an important wicket for us no doubt. I've just said gday to him in the hallway, I haven't reached out or said too much to him."
Unlike the Thunder, who have embraced their new teammate since he joined their Canberra bubble around Christmas time slotting straight in behind the stumps.
"He's been great for our younger players, he's got right around them and certainly been more than happy to impart his knowledge on the team and help out where he can," Thunder captain Callum Ferguson said.
"I was really pleased for him to put the innings together that he did the other night, albeit unfortunately in a loss. He probably deserved to be on the winning side.
"He'd worked really hard over the last couple of weeks and he deserved every one of those runs."

The Thunder's form has wobbled fractionally in the new year, which has included two losses from their last three matches, although a win over their fierce rivals would catapult them back to the top of the table.
"When we haven't got over the line they've been tight losses, we've certainly taken games down to the wire, even when we haven't been at our best," Ferguson said.
"It's a really long tournament. We know that we're going to need squad depth.
"We feel like we've shown squad depth, the guys who have come in have had an impact straight away which is fantastic, and they're quite young players as well which is a great sign for the future.
"We've got a lot of confidence at the moment but we'll certainly need that coming up against the Sixers."
