The 56-year-old was arrested following a search carried out at the man's home by the ACT Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team.
It's alleged police found an expansion drive at the home containing videos and images of child abuse material.
Police have also alleged the man was depicted in one of the videos engaging in a sex act while viewing some of the child abuse material.
The expansion drive was seized by officers and will undergo digital forensic analysis.
The 56-year-old was charged with using an carriage service to engage in sexual activity with a child under 16 and two counts of child abuse material possession.
He will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday.
