Useful ideas to help you feel good within

The secret to sticking to New Year resolutions is to keep them simple.

While it's tempting to have overly ambitious intentions, the reality is most resolutions won't have made it past the second week of January.

It's not too late to come up with some new or better ones, so here are some great ideas that are both realistic and worthwhile.

Take good care of your mental health

Overcoming stresses can be easier said than done.

For example, the financial impact of the pandemic continues to affect millions of Australians and, money worries can take a serious toll on our mental health and wellbeing.

Head to Health, provided by the Australian Department of Health has a wealth of information about how you can stay mentally healthy.

Some of their tips include:

A healthy lifestyle: Plan fun activities that give you a sense of achievement, stay active, eat well and stay connected with friends and family.

Stay informed: Getting information from trusted sources can help you determine reasonable precautions to take to maintain your health

Stay positive: Remember this is unpleasant, but it will pass. What you say to yourself is important. Listen to the things you are saying to yourself and change negative comments to be more helpful and realistic.

Access support: If you're feeling overwhelmed, access support. You can find out how at headtohealth.gov.au.

One step at a time

The beginning of a new year is a great time to join a gym but if starting a new fitness regime seems daunting you can keep yourself moving by going for a walk or bike ride or simply taking the stairs instead of the lift.

Learn something new

You might have trouble following through if you resolve to something big like becoming fluent in a new language by the end of this year. Instead, choose shorter repeatable goals such as learning a new word every day, pick up a book that you keep meaning to read, or you can try a new recipe every week.

Keep in touch

Many of us are social creatures by nature, so it's important to make time to stay connected with family and friends through the various mediums available. Why not make it a resolution to touch base with one loved-one each day.
