Canberra weather: Temperature set to hit almost 40 at the weekend

The hot weather is set to continue in the ACT this week with a late start to summer heat forecast to push temperatures to the high 30s.
Following last week's heatwave conditions, Monday will kick off the week with a sunny top of 31, before the temperature climbs to almost 40 by the weekend.
Canberra is forecast to hit 38 on Saturday and 39 on Sunday, which would be the hottest days in the ACT since February 1 last year, when a top of 42 was reached.

The highest temperature in December was 35 degrees recorded at the start of the month, compared to 41 degrees in the same month in 2019.
ACT Health has urged Canberrans to stay safe in the heat by keeping hydrated, being sun safe and checking in on vulnerable friends and family.

Mid-week weather won't be as intense, with a top of 28 and low of 12 predicted on Tuesday, and top of 26 and low of 9 on Wednesday.
A high of 31 will return on Thursday and 35 degrees is expected on Friday. There is also a 20 per cent chance of a shower at the end of the week.
