Alex Coppinger was reported missing to police on January 17 after he was last seen riding his motorcycle west of Canberra.

ACT Policing officers located the 21-year-old on Monday morning during an extensive search of the Tidbinbilla area.

The search began on Sunday evening and involved the Toll search and rescue helicopter.

Acting Superintendent of Road Policing Marcus Boorman said police believed the fatal collision occurred on Sunday.

"It appears he was riding his motorcycle and for some reason left the road in a collision," Acting Superintendent Boorman said.

"I'm not going to pre-empt what the cause of the collision was, that is yet to be determined."

Acting Superintendent Boorman said Canberrans should be cautious when driving on country roads.

"Country roads have lots of different hazards, whether it be wildlife, whether it be different surfaces," he said.

"I'd ask drivers to take care and slow down."

He said motorcyclists also had personal responsibility for their safety on Canberra's roads.

"If you are riding a motorcycle out there it's a good idea to ride in pairs just in case something does go wrong so emergency services can be notified," he said.

"It comes back to individuals and their driving and we all need to be responsible."

Acting Superintendent Boorman said Mr Coppinger's death was tragic.

"I say it all the time, one death on the road is too many," he said.

"We just hope and aim to have zero road fatalities."

A report will be prepared for the coroner and ACT Policing Major Collision Team will continue to investigate the incident.
