1. The Great Aussie Picnic
Grab your picnic mat and head out for a family-friendly COVID-safe picnic at Lake Burley Griffin from 11am on January 26. Five entertainment hubs will be located along the lake, bringing music, food trucks, outdoor bars and performances. Kids will be entertained by performances at the Ankle Biters hub at Kings Park. 2. Stage 88 Australia Day Concert
What is more Australian than a concert featuring Daryl Braithwaite and Lee Kernaghan? The all-ages open air concert begins at Commonwealth Park from 1pm and will rage on until 9pm. Bring a picnic mat and enjoy the tunes. Tickets can be purchased via www.stage88.com.au with $5 from every ticket going to charity.
3. Australia Daze at the National Film and Sound Archive
The documentary was filmed by 29 camera crews across Australia on January 26, 1988, the bicentenary of European settlement in Australia. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with segment director Erika Addis. The documentary will be presented at the ARC cinema at 6pm on January 26. Tickets cost $10-$12 and can be purchased via www.nfsa.gov.au.
4. January 26 at the National Museum of Australia
The National Museum will run a jam-packed day of free family-friendly activities, tours and talks that look into Australian identity. Events kick off from 10am with a smoking ceremony and welcome to country. For more go to www.nma.gov.au.
5. Australia Day for a cause at Contentious Character
Contentious Character is running a community day to raise funds for Wildcare, a Queanbeyan-based charity that supports wildlife affected by the 2020 bushfires. Tables are available for booking for up to two hours. Following bookings attendees can migrate to the lawn and tune into live music from The Advocates.
