Olive returned from the Gold Coast Magic Millions sales this week with three new stable additions, including a Not A Single Doubt filly which commanded $550,000.
Sold on account of Milburn Creek, Olive's new filly is out of Street Cry mare Delphic who is a three-quarter sister to Group 3 winner Circular.
"She's a nice big strong filly, athletic, well bred, she's got a bit going for her," Olive said.
"I went up there with a shortlist of them and we were keen to target her after we looked at them all.
"We didn't think we'd need to go to that much but my client that wanted to buy it was keen to get her so he kept going."
Olive landed two more youngsters at the Gold Coast sales - a Hellbent Colt for $90,000 and a Pariah filly which dropped the hammer at $32,000.
"They're nowhere near the pedigree of the other one but they were horses I thought were value and nice athletic types so that's why we got them," Olive said.
Since returning from Queensland, Olive's focus has returned entirely to his home track where he holds a strong hand on Friday.
Hinchinbrook mare Tejori returns to action in the Federal Handicap (1200m), a month after a disappointing effort at Wagga on Christmas Eve where she was a shadow of the horse which won a Highway Handicap at Randwick over the Autumn.
"She pulled up sore after Wagga, that run was way out of character with her so we had to address a few issues," Olive said.
"She trialled the other day, I thought she trialled well. She's done well since that trial, so hopefully she's back to her best tomorrow and races well. I just hope the track's not too firm.
"It's a good little field, I think it's a pretty even race to be honest. She could be one of six or seven that could win it."
Olive is hoping recent stable addition Invincible Dash can kick off the program with a win in his first effort over 2000m.
MORE CANBERRA SPORT
The ex-Peter and Paul Snowden-trained four-year-old steps out for the fifth time under Olive in the Benchmark 65 Handicap (2000m) up against a small but competitive field.
"The biggest thing with him is to relax a bit more and away from Sydney in a country environment, he's probably way more relaxed," Olive said.
"He's just shown us with his racing that he's looking for more ground.
"I've got a question mark on the 2000 but he should've won last start, he got held up in the straight and was probably a good thing beaten.
"I really think the 2000 will suit, you never know until you go over it but I really think he'll be hard to beat. He's one of my better chances."
Invincible Dash has placed in his last two for Olive, finishing third at Corowa on December 28 before charging home to just miss at Canberra last Wednesday.
The Deepest Secret will chase his first win in a maiden handicap over 1300m while three-time career winner Flight Commander lines up in the Benchmark 60 Handicap (1400m).
SCORSE'S SAUCE
Former leading jockey John Scorse provides all the tips you need for Canberra's race meet on Friday.
Best bet: Race 8 no 1 Clem fandango. Unsuited last few runs and still not beaten far, scored very impressively at his only try this t/d and the 8 day back up looks ideal
Race 1:
No 3 Invincible Dash - Racing well but without luck and goes to 2000 for the first time, relaxes well in his races and may have more acceleration than these
No 2 Lamington Drive - Broke through for a well deserved win last start at this t/d good chance again
No 1 Aesop's Fable - Honest mare dropping back in class and gets the blinkers on, small field suits
Race 2:
No 4 Red Kanzi - Good effort to overcome difficulties and score a strong maiden win here this t/d, she can win again
No 3 Mo More Chicken - Just missed after covering extra ground at orange, racing well and chance again
No 1 Winds of War - Raced well in first prep and resumed in town and well beaten, trialled okay recently
Race 3:
No 6 Dreamline - Placed 3/6 and finds a very winnable race, his experience could be the deciding factor here
No 7 Mixed Up Factor - Trialled okay and comes from a good family, watch market
No 2 Brothers Of Antrim - Has had two trials and has the advantage of the inside gate
Race 4:
No 2 Equal Balance - Looks very well placed in this at third run this prep, has raced in much tougher grade
No 3 Bolson - Lightly raced and ran on some very wet tracks last time in, resuming off three trials
No 1 Divine Approach - Third up and drops in class here, 3kg claim will help her at first try this distance
No 4 Flight Commander - Likes to roll along in front and could be hard to run down
Race 5:
No 3 Pandering - Good effort here first up then disappointed as fav at Moruya, up to 1300 on home track and should improve
No 11 More Shots - Well fancied 1st up and had no luck from awkward draw. Up in distance and this is not as strong
No 2 Super Solar - Even effort on debut and will improve with extra distance and blinkers on
Race 6:
No 4 State Capital - Has trialled well in both city heats and from a leading yard will be on speed and well educated
No 8 Baden Road - Placed in recent city trial and has the blinkers on for her debut, watch market
No 7 Astern's Girl - Recent trial was okay and looks well educated
No 7 Kattegat - Has come back in great form this prep and scored a very dominant win last start, should get a nice run throughout
No 1 Hard Core - Very consistent and not beaten far in Country Cup at the Gold Coast. Sure to run well
No 3 Mnementh - Coming off a strong win at his home track, has been freshened up and back in distance suits, well drawn
Race 8:
No 1 Clem Fandango - Just missed the placings at Moruya and off a 5 week break, scored a very strong win this t/d and looks well suited here
No 6 Timely Shadow - Forgive last run on heavy track in town, has been close up in all runs this prep and will get a nice run
No 2 Outahand - Got too far back here last run and gets to the mile which should suit him
