Tickets to Skywhale: Every Heart Sings on February 6 went on sale at 10am and by 10.15am the National Gallery of Australia website stated the second release had sold out. It was the same amount of time for the first release to sell out on Thursday.

While there is no news yet whether a third release is on the cards, tickets are only required to see the two hot air balloons inflate and take off within a sectioned off area near the National Gallery of Australia. It will be a seated event with people encouraged to bring their own picnic blanket.

Once the artworks are in the sky they will be able to be visible from other parts of the city and around Lake Burley Griffin.

The event will be the maiden voyage for Skywhalepapa, the companion to the skyborne beast Skywhale, which was commissioned by the National Gallery of Australia in 2019.

Patricia Piccinini's new creation is larger than the original, measuring 25 metres tall, 23 metres wide and 32 metres long. Weighing in at 450 kilograms, Skywhalepapa is about a third larger than Skywhale.

The first launch date will be on February 6 at 5.30am, followed by two more on March 8 and April 3. Tickets to the other flights will be released at a later date.

There will also be a live performance of We are the Skywhales by Canberran Jess Green with her band and the Luminescence Children's Choir to create an immersive sonic experience.
