The public bodies wanted to impress on then-prime minister James Scullin the immediate need of transferring public servants to Canberra to occupy empty cottages and offices, in what were the difficult depression years which stalled the growth of the federal city.
The bodies would meet to appoint a deputation to the prime minister in an effort to obtain a definite statement of the federal government's intentions for the city.
It was not the only deputation being planned, with another being dispatched to Queanbeyan's Civic Administrator, Mr C. S. Daly, to request the water contract for the city is followed and enough water is supplied from the reservoir.
Residents in higher parts of the city were left without at times during hot spells, when the supply to the reservoir allegedly fell sort of the amount stipulated in the contract.
Residents complained that the same thing happens each year, the Times reported.
