Understanding that every child learns differently, Dream Catcher Tutoring is passionate about empowering children to see what they can achieve.
The tutoring business offers multi-sensory, play based sessions as well as individual sessions and above all, are here to encourage and help give your child the tools they need to succeed.
Gemma, the owner and principal tutor at Dream Catcher Tutoring, is a fully qualified teacher with over 15 years' experience working with children with ASD, ADHD, dyslexia and non specific learning challenges. She specialises in learning differences and trauma histories.
"Being diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age too, I understand the challenges and struggles your child/ren face, I've been there. However, having broken down so many of the barriers that were placed on me, I know your child will be able to do the same!" Gemma said.
"I really felt there was a need for support services for these children, so subsequently Dream Catcher Tutoring was born!"
Dream Catcher Tutoring's student learning programs are:
- Individualised and based on assessment data
- Multi-sensory and target the child's specific learning needs
- Built to change and adapt to the needs of the student
- Developed by qualified tutors and teachers
- Progress focused
"We understand that everyone is different, which is why no two programs are the same," Gemma said.
Dream Catcher Tutoring has a three step process that aims to make this an easy and seamless process for your child and you as parents/carers.
Step 1. Online child assessment session
In this first step in the process, they will sit down and get a baseline for your child, have a look at what assessments have already been completed, where your child needs support and where focus is needed based on the individual needs. Dream Catcher Tutoring will also complete their own assessments during this time.
Step 2. Parent meeting session
Here Dream Catcher Tutoring will discuss with you the findings from the child assessment session, your goals for your child, their likes/dislikes and hobbies, the main challenges your child is facing and will begin to work out some specific and measurable goals to put in place.
Step 3. Student tutoring session
This is where the fun begins. In these one hour sessions your tutor will use multi-sensory techniques based on the Orton-Gillingham approach to play games while learning. These sessions can take place in your home, school or wherever is suitably comfortable for your child to be able to engage and learn.
"Multi-sensory learning is an approach which engages multiple neural pathways at the same time," Gemma said. "When sitting in a classroom, normally children are only engaging one or perhaps two pathways at the same time."
