Mack scored an unbeaten century at the top of the order but it wasn't enough against the Bridget Patterson-inspired South Australian Scorpions in a seven-wicket WNCL loss at Phillip Oval on Sunday.

The 27-year-old struck 106 from 131 balls in a knock boasting seven boundaries, but she played a lone hand for a Meteors outfit rolled for 196 in 49.1 overs.

Scorpions opener Bridget Patterson returned serve with a stellar knock of her own, scoring 108 not out from 162 deliveries to steer the visitors home with eight balls to spare.

"If you told me I was going to score a century today, I'd be pretty happy," Mack said despite almost losing her voice throughout the day.

"Obviously a little bit tarnished not getting the win, but personally, pretty happy. Obviously it would have been a little bit nicer to have a few more partnerships. I could have batted a lot better personally, having a bit more freedom.

"Given the circumstances and being stuck between scoring and also trying to bat out for as long as we could, I'm pretty happy with how I went.

"There's still a little bit left in the tank, I can bat a bit better than that."

A middle order collapse threatened to derail the Meteors' hopes of posting a competitive total when numbers three to six in the batting order combined for just 15 runs.

For some time it seemed as though Mack would run out of partners as she crept towards three figures, with opening partner Rebecca Carter (26) and emerging star Maddie Penna (15) the only other batters to score more than seven.

Yet she carried the Meteors to a competitive total despite Samantha Betts' impressive showing with the ball (3-14 from five overs) to give the home side a fighting chance with the ball in hand.

But the ACT's hopes were dashed by a 116-run stand for the third wicket between centurion Patterson and Courtney Webb (52).

Zoe Cooke was the pick of the ACT bowlers, claiming 1-27 from 10 overs as the Meteors dragged the contest into the 49^th over before falling to their second consecutive defeat.

The ACT have slid to third on the competition table after three matches behind Tasmania and South Australia.

But the make-up of the standings will change in a flash given reigning champions Western Australia, traditional powerhouses NSW and Victoria are yet to play a game.

The Meteors now have a fortnight to regroup before they head south to face Victoria at Junction Oval on February 21, a clash followed by a trip to Perth.

"There are some obvious things we can work on but the general feeling is pretty positive," Mack said.

"All the games we've taken right to the end and we have been really competitive. If we can just take a few things up a notch, we'll take wins instead of these couple of losses."
