CCTV cameras, traffic calming measures and road safety barriers have been funded for the ACT by the federal government as part of a "use it or lose it" $6 million road safety infrastructure program.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack announced the funding on Wednesday, with caveats around all the projects being shovel ready and delivered within a specific timeframe, or the funds are allocated elsewhere.
The $6 million program is matched by funding from the ACT government.
The specific projects funded are:
- Safety barriers on Tuggeranong Parkway ($2 million)
- CCTV traffic camera network ($1.75 million)
- New safety barriers on Kings Highway ($125,000)
- Improvements to pedestrian safety ($1.35 million)
The cameras will be installed at 26 locations including:
- Coulter Drive and Southern Cross Drive;
- Athllon Drive and Soward Way;
- William Hovell Drive and Coulter Drive;
- Canberra Avenue, Captain Cook Crescent and Manuka Circle;
- Ginninderra Drive and Gungahlin Drive.
The extra CCTV traffic cameras will add to the 18 already operated by the Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate at its Traffic Management Centre.
The additional funding for the Tuggeranong Parkway safety barriers comes after a recent announcement of electronic variable speed road signs for the same stretch of road, in a project valued at $350,000.
The parkway's current road safety barriers will be upgraded to "comply with current standards and reduce the likelihood of fatal crashes caused by run off collisions" under federal office of road safety advice.
The funding for regional and national road infrastructure is targeted at those projects that can be ramped up in the next six to 12 months in a program that Assistant Minister for Road Safety Scott Buchholz described as "providing a boost the economy while saving lives and livelihoods".
ACT Transport Minister Chris Steel said raised pedestrian crossings and speed cushions would be added at locations like Phillip Avenue, Majura Avenue and Ellerston Avenue.
