Reid was removed as an FA director with a vote of 51 per cent to 49 against her at an extraordinary general meeting on Friday.

Football NSW called the meeting for the sole purpose of dislodging Reid, reportedly because of their claims she allegedly hurt Stefan Kamasz's election bid last year.

Kamasz was Football NSW's nominee for the FA board, to which he was elected in November.

Reid dismissed the claims on social media and said she would continue to be an advocate for women's football.

"I am disappointed, but also thankful to the Football Australia Congress members who decided to join me on the right side of history and reject Football NSW's unsubstantiated allegations," she said in a statement posted on Twitter.

"In an environment when women's football is at the centre of Football Australia's COVID-19 recovery the outcome of this vote is both a personal blow and a blow to other women who aspire to be leaders in our sport and to effect change for the good of the game.

"After serving football for most of my life, I know the momentum behind the rise in women's football is unstoppable and young women can be confident that our sport will reach its full potential.

"While I will no longer be a director of Football Australia I will never stop advocating and supporting the growth and development of our game across the broad football family.

"I am proud of my contributions to the world game and standing up for women's football while promoting inclusion, equity and diversity at every opportunity."

Reid was elected to the FA board in 2018 and was instantly elected deputy chairperson.

But she stood down from her duties after just a couple of months to focus on her health.

She returned to the board at the end of 2019 once she'd won her battle against cancer.

During her time on the board, Reid was forced to apologise to former Matildas coach Alen Stajcic for comments she made when he was sacked from the role.

She said people would be "shocked" if they knew the facts about his behaviour - comments she later retracted.

"The meeting was convened in response to a notice given by Football NSW ... to move a resolution to remove Heather Reid as a director of Football Australia with effect from the close of the meeting," the FA said in a statement.

"The resolution proposed by Football NSW was passed by the members at the general meeting.

"As the election and removal of directors is a fundamental and exclusive right for members to exercise, the board of Football Australia will not be making any comment in relation to this matter or on the outcome of the resolution.

"Football Australia would like thank Heather for her service to the Football Australia board, and wish her the best for the future."
