Fresh from his first professional win in the Murray Open last week, Armstrong shot a four-under 68 in the opening round on Saturday to sit in a tie for seventh - behind leader Jordan Widdicombe.
His fellow Canberran Matt Millar was five-under in a tie for fourth.
Armstrong's Murray Open win in Corowa earned him a spot in the NSW Open at his home club of Concord, which starts March 25.
He'll also be in action at the Queanbeyan Open, starting Wednesday.
