Hansen scored 50 per cent more points than the wounded Waratahs in their 61-10 rout on Saturday night, a result which landed the Brumbies' biggest win against any Australian opponent in Super Rugby.
Indeed he was the star of the evening; scoring three tries, gained 75 metres with 10 carries to bookend reigning champion's clinical performance.
But 22-year-old Hansen knows he has a greater challenge ahead as he fills the void left by injured Wallaby Tom Wright.
And that's backing it up against the Melbourne Rebels on Saturday.
"It was really special. I finally feel like I've taken the opportunity I've waited so long for," Hansen said.
"Everyone has been getting around me all week. To be fair, they made my job a whole lot easier to begin with, I just had to run over and put the ball down. It was great especially with the crowd, getting back to the old days.
"It's a good confidence booster, I know each week is going to be different. The Rebels, as they've shown, are a great team. They're going to show up a little more than the Tahs did. It's just being able to back it up week after week."
Brumbies coach Dan McKellar could be hit by a healthy selection headache when all wingers become available for selection.
Wright is expected to miss up to six weeks of the season with bone bruising, while Solomone Kata is overcoming an injury complaint of his own.
Issak Fines-Leleiwasa is also waiting in the wings for an opportunity, with Wallaby Nic White and Ryan Lonergan in the pecking order for the No. 9 jersey.
He was used as an outside-back during the club's lone pre-season game against the Western Force earlier this month.
"We've built a really good squad, we had a couple of key guys leave last year. I think everyone is stepping into their roles," Hansen said.
"Tom being out, he's helping me a lot in getting to know the wing. He's not one to dwell, he's a bloke... we're all blokes that once something doesn't go our way we do everything to help each other as well.
"You never know what Dan is thinking. It's not a terrible problem to have, there's a lot of guys who aren't even playing in the 23 that could easily step up. It could have been them [on Saturday night], so I was happy to be on the other end."

The Rebels fell short of claiming victory over the Queensland Reds on Friday night, losing their lead in the final two minutes to be beaten 23-21.
McKellar expects them to come out with a point to prove when they return to Canberra Stadium this weekend, eager to topple the ladder-leaders to claim their first win of the Super Rugby AU season.
"They showed they're a gritty team aren't they? They'll come hard at you defensively and put you under pressure," McKellar said.
"We'll review this game and have a look at them, going with what a strategy of what we think will beat them.
"They present a different challenge, they were unlucky on Friday night. I think as a club they'll be really proud of that performance. We understand that while we're pleased with [Saturday night], we'll wake up and get ready for Melbourne."
