Do you renovate or find somewhere else to call home?
The decision can be emotional, with so many memories tied up in a family home, however making the decision to move can be revitalising, here are five reasons why:
1. Explore new places and meet new people. Even if it's a new house in the same suburb, you'll see a different side of your community.
2. Declutter your life. There's nothing like moving house to help you sort out years of accumulated "stuff".
3. It might be easier than renovating. Attending open for inspections may cost you a few Saturday mornings but it could be quite enjoyable by comparison. When renovating you need to be prepared to live in a construction zone (or if doing major renovations you may need to move out altogether).
4. You know the costs up front. Renovations, unless you're really strict, can easily blow the budget.
5. Bring the family together. Establishing new memories and traditions can add a new dimension to family relationships.
If you really love your neighbourhood and you have room to expand on your block then a renovation may be a good option for you.
Be sure to choose a licensed and reputable builder and don't try to do the renovations yourself if you are not suitably qualified.
Whether you choose to move or improve it helps to investigate both options to see what is best for you and your family.
