Annabel Neasham had the perfect Equation for the $150,000 Canberra Guineas.
The colt boasted three wins from four starts leading into Canberra Cup Day at Thoroughbred Park, and with Tommy Berry on board he looked primed to deliver over the extra distance.
And that he did.
Equation flew down the outside from the midfield to chase down the listed Canberra Guineas (1400 metres) by 0.71 lengths on Monday.
He beat High Supremacy and Kermanding for the top prizemoney, while Matthew Dale's Molly Nails was the highest-place local horse at sixth.
Equation is now unbeaten in his last four starts, a winning sequence that began in June under Ciaron Maher Racing - with the colt joining Neasham's Warwick Farm stable late last year.
"I'm delighted and it was a great ride by Tommy," Neasham said.
"I was always confident he was going to be hard to beat based on winning his last three starts, but at home it looks like he has improved out of that win in Canterbury.
"He's a lovely colt, has a lot of ability and I think he's just going to keep pressing on.
"It's great to do it for Aquis [Farm] and the other owners of the horse, they're great supporters of mine."
It was only fitting that he claimed Canberra Guineas on International Women's Day, with Neasham being the only female trainer in the listed race.
"It's honestly great," Neasham said. "Times have changed and I don't even think about that."
Neasham will see how three-year-old Equation pulls up before setting her sights on his next race, but the listed South Pacific Classic (1400 metres) in April will likely be targeted.
"We'll let the dust settle and I'm sure we'll be heading towards something over the carnival," Neasham said.
Before the Canberra Guineas, Formeinaway took out the Lickety Split (1000 metres) for Mark Newnham's stable on his second start.
Under jockey Rachel King, the three-year-old colt won the battle for the lead at the home corner and held off Luke Pepper's Grand Lusitano to win by a narrow margin.
