A 12-year-old Queanbeyan boy had most likely established a world age record in the 3000 metre steeplechase, despite only running in a handful of events, The Canberra Times reported on this day 47 years ago.

Woden Valley Club's Terry Rogers, was believed to have set a world record in the event at Woden Park, running a time of 13 minutes 10.1 seconds in an event for over-15s which he was invited to compete in.
The known record, as far as officials were aware, was run by an American, who clocked a 14-minute time.
"I knew I had a chance of breaking it," Terry said, who had run only seven steeplechases previously.
"I broke the time before but we only had one watch on it."
The regulation three stopwatches were on hand to catch his record-breaking run.
Meanwhile, a hoard of $6000 was found stuffed in an old electric griller that was being prepared for auction on behalf of the Curator of Estates of Dead Persons.
The door of the griller fell off and a bundle of $10 notes fell out. The rest of the money was tucked inside.
Charles Ratford, the auctioneer, said hoards of money had been found previously in other goods, but never so much.
