Justin Peter Inczedi, 36, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday morning, facing charges including dishonestly obtaining a silver Subaru and a mountain bike.
Mr Inczedi was also charged with possessing a .22-calibre bolt action rifle that had an identification number removed, which he was alleged to have failed to properly secure.
Police said in a statement that they received a report on Friday of a car allegedly fraudulently obtained parked under an apartment building in Gungahlin.
A woman reported she never received the money purportedly transferred to her to buy her car last week, police said.
Police said they searched the property early on Saturday morning, where they found the car and an unregistered firearm in an upstairs apartment.
Mr Inczedi did not apply for bail and will next appear in court early next month.
