Having met during their time at the Sydney Roosters, the two forged a strong bond while winning the Super League premiership at St Helens in 2014 - the year before Soliola returned Down Under to join the Canberra Raiders.
Soliola helped launch the Men Of League's Stand with Mose campaign during the week, to raise funds for the gentle giant who suffered a shattering spinal injury in January last year.
It's left him fighting to walk again and with a wife and young family to support.
Soliola's been in constant contact with his mate, but said while he'd made progress with walking he was still struggling to use his hands.
Even something as simple as sending a text message was a challenge.
"He signed at the Roosters in 2008 that's how it all kicked off," Soliola said.
"I didn't really get to play first grade with him at the Roosters, but that's how our friendship forged.
"He moved over to St Helens and it was from then on we were a really tight-knit family with Carissa and their kids.
"We won a comp in 2014 together and stayed in touch ever since. I had a chat to him [Sunday] night seeing how everything's going.
"The hardest part is that even though he can walk and he's progressing his walking, he can't really use his hands properly still so texting and messaging is quite hard and quite fatiguing for him.
"He'll always have a laugh about it, but that's the type of guy Mose is. He'll just laugh everything off.
"He's a champion that's for sure. That's why I'll be doing my best to try and help him as much as I can - not just now for the rest of our lives."

The English Super League dedicated this weekend's round to Masoe to help him financially.
Soliola also wanted to do his bit.
"This is a great opportunity over this Easter break that we can really rally around one of our own and show a lot of support for Mose and his family," he said.
