Striking workers at a Melbourne food factory have been told they are "on the front line" of fighting for better pay and conditions.

About 100 workers at the McCormick factory are five weeks into strike action.
Federal Labor MP Tanya Plibersek and ACTU President Michele O'Neil spoke at a rally outside the factory on Friday.
McCormick makes sauces for a number of fast food chains, including McDonalds and KFC.
Ms O'Neil said the workers had done everything asked of them last year during Melbourne's coronavirus lockdown and were entitled to better pay and conditions.
"You were on the front line (last year) ... now you are on the front line in terms of defending and fighting for workers' pay and conditions," she said.
"Every union in the country is watching this dispute. We've got your back."
Ms Plibersek said Labor was standing with the workers "to make sure that you see pay increases, that you see better conditions ... that you see better quality of life for you and your families".
