ADFAS Molonglo Plains
The Queanbeyan branch of the Australian Decorative & Fine Arts Societies is continuing its 2021 lecture season on Thursday, April 15 at 2pm at the Queanbeyan Bicentennial Hall with The Artwork and Handwritten Journals of the First Fleet, presented by Paul Brunton, emeritus curator of the NSW State Library. It will be followed by an afternoon tea. Cost for non-members is $25 (cards accepted, preferred COVID check-in is via the Service NSW app. RSVP by April 13 for catering and further information). New PhotoAccess exhibitions
Now on at the Huw Davies Gallery at PhotoAccess are three exhibitions exploring the built and/or natural environment through distinctive media. Sarah Annand (ACT) in Building Blocks traces intersections between architectural photography and textile design, Thomas Lord (New Zealand ) in his show Super Sport Sunday produces fine art darkroom prints of the Otago region and Ellen Dahl (NSW) in her show Altering the Edges combines lyrical poetry and photographic images to trace the meaning of the Anthropocene. Each of these three solo shows engages with the idea of landscape, exploring questions of the meanings and transformations of place. Floor talk
Jeff Mincham will give a floor talk about his exhibition Vive La Vrai Céramique: Adventures In Clay - his 90th solo show - and his residence at Canberra Potters on Saturday, April 10 at 2pm in the Canberra Potters Gallery, 1 Aspinall Street, Watson. Cosi
Canberra Repertory Society presents Louis Nowra's quasi-autobiographical comedy about a university graduate who takes on the assignment of directing a theatrical production in a psychiatric facility. Mamma Mia!
Free-Rain Theatre Company's production of the ABBA jukebox musical about a young woman who invites three men to her wedding, one of whom is her unknown father, is on at the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre from April 13 to May 8, 2021. theq.net.au.
One Man In His Time
John Bell, founder of Bell Shakespeare, will be performing his one-man show about his long relationship with the works of William Shakespeare as actor, director and producer, including readings from some of the works. Patsy Hely
An exhibition by Canberra artist Patsy Hely opens at Collector's Helen Stephens Gallery on Sunday, April 11 at 2pm. Staying close and virtual roaming examines the past year or so with its constraints but also with walks in local ACT bush - Black Mountain, Mount Majura and Mount Ainslie. Hely works predominately in the ceramic medium but with a more recent engagement in watercolour and oil painting. The exhibition continues until May 23 and is open Friday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm.
