Ameen Hamdan, 19, appeared briefly in the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with culpable driving causing death.
He is also charged with contravening the conditions of his driver's licence.
Mr Hamdan had been summonsed to court after crashing his car into a tree on Longmore Crescent in Wanniassa on October 31 last year.
The 16-year-old teenager who was his passenger was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and she died on November 3.
There were no further details of the teenager's alleged offending aired in court.
Mr Hamdan did not enter pleas.
His lawyer requested and was given an adjournment by Magistrate James Lawton.
The case is next due in court on May 5.
