Rumours began circulating on social media on Wednesday an NRL player had been recorded in an intimate act with a female in a toilet cubicle.

It's claimed the footage was taken over the cubicle door by a third party, with the Eels having since gone to the NRL to complain their player was one of the victims.

The player was not named.

"We understand that those on the video have been illegally filmed by another person without consent," the Eels said in a statement.

"An attempt has been made to distribute the video to media outlets and on social media platforms.

"The club has informed the NRL integrity unit and is taking the matter very seriously, particularly given the potential invasion of privacy of those involved."

News of the video's release broke while the Eels were in the air on a flight to Darwin where they will face Brisbane on Friday night.

The club was then forced to scramble to cooperate with the integrity unit's investigations.

Halfback Mitch Moses spoke at the airport upon arrival in the Northern Territory only to say it would not be a distraction to the side as they chase back-to-back wins against the Broncos.

"I don't think it's any distraction at all," he said.

"The club will work through it and whatever happens, happens.

"We're here to play footy and that's our full focus this week."

The Eels player in the video finds himself in a similar situation to Kotoni Staggs, who was cleared of any wrongdoing by the NRL over an incident in 2020.

Staggs was investigated by the NRL's integrity unit for a sex tape that was released without his consent.

He was not punished by the NRL but the woman was later found guilty and fined in Brisbane Magistrates Court for distributing prohibited visual recordings.
